I am using the program through a Paccomm tiny 2, If I use the TNC as a Packet device with say Winpack and I try and connect to
someone the Transmitter keys up and I can hear PKT tones (on a separate receiver)
But when I close winpack down and run aprsisce up and hit the transmit button the radio transmits but with a totally dead carrier
ie no tones

It relies on the hardware interface (TNC or soundcard program) to do that work. If you describe your complete configuration, we may be able to provide some things to look at.
