Can't seem to get it working with my Kenwood TMD710

Help.
I am a new ham with a new radio and a new net book but I can't get it working. I have the APRS working ok on the radio but can't get the interface working with the computer. I tried all the settings for the software but maybe I have something set wrong on the radio. I am plugging into the remote head unit not the base is that correct? Is there a step by step for setting up a Kenwood TMD710 with a computer?

Problem solved! I needed to get a few things straightened out.
Start with netbook or laptop hardware and establish the com port configuration,
next setup the program to use those settings,
next configure the radio to use those settings, check Menu 528 to make sure it is set for the same speed as virtual com port,
next turn on the com port in Menu 604,
and last but not least you may have to toggle the radio TNC button from APRS to Packet mode.
This has me up and running so now I can play with my settings to optimize the program for my needs.

Are you using the KWD710(Pkt) or KWD710(APRS) port type in APRSISCE/32?

KWD710(APRS) is what I set up last. It seems to working ok but it seems odd that if I select aprs on the radio I get my gps info but if I select packet mode on the radio I get info from other stations starts streaming. This occurs without changing any program settings but I might have had to shut the radio off/on to restart communication. I am pulling this info from my memory at this point… It's to miserable outside to go play with the setup now. I will teak it some more tomorrow after work.
