I see a server password rejected message, what password should I put in there?

If I only wanted to receive packets from say stations within 60 miles of me, can I do that?

See http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:password for a description of the password. You can only get one if you're a licensed amateur radio operator and only need one if you want to use APRS messaging or have your position transmitted throughout the APRS-IS network to be visible to other stations.

The Configure / General / Range value (in 1/10 miles) sets the range around your set location from within which stations will be visible. Panning and zooming change what portion you see, but the Range value sets how much data will be coming in.

I figured out my questions -
zooming in and out changes the distance, and just leaving the password blank seemed to work

Actually, it's common practice to put a password of -1 if you don't need a validated connection (meaning you only want to watch what's going on and not actively participate). Just don't try to do any APRS messaging because your messages will never get into the network and therefore will never be acked nor replied to.

Help. I have a gps, TinyTrak3 and 2 meter transmitter but need to be able to send the transmitted signal I receive into my laptop.
What equipment or software would I need to do that?

Well a TinyTrack3 is a transmit only device. You obviously need a 2 meter Receiver, and a TNC, a KISS only TNC such as the TNC-X will do fine. Or a software modem such as http://uz7.ho.ua/packetradio.htm will interface with APRSIS32. From your name I guess you are doing Balloon launches, APRSIS32 includes the ability to show the VHF communication range of a balloon

Or get a TinyTrak4 which supports receiving and decoding APRS unlike the TinyTrak3, if you want to keep it in the family.
