Map intensity and text color

I would very much like to be able to change the intensity (brightness/contrast) of the map. This way I can darken down the map to allow the icons to stand out. I would also like to change the font color for the station labels.

Have you tried left/right arrows? Left will decrease opacity / increase transparency / make it paler. Right will increase opacity / decrease transparency / make it darker.

Hi Lynn,

Yes that is a great feature, I was just hoping to be able to darken it down to make them stand out and change the font color. Xastir has these features and in helps out allot, but I would rather use APRSISCE.

APRSISCE/32 doesn't render it's own maps, but draws pre-rendered tiles from map tile servers. I can only play with the transparency of displaying the tiles and cannot modify the content of the tiles themselves (yet).

I don't know how Xastir changes the intensity, but they use OSM maps too. Perhaps its a black overlay and they are just controlling the overlays opacity.

YES! I think that is exactly how they are doing it. I just took a screenshot of OSM and opened it in Photoshop. Putting a layer of black between the map and aprs symbols & text renders the same affect when you change the opacity of the black layer.

I have been told that one reason people switch from xastir to APRSISCE/32 is the speed of rendering. I deliver that speed by keeping the rendering brain-dead simple. It's xastir's multiple layer support as well as stretch-scaling maps that make it slower for some presentations.

I've got lots of map rendering things on the ToDo list, one of the main ones being a local rendering directly from OSM's raw data rather than relying on pre-rendered tiles. When I finally get back around to working on such things, I hope you'll remind me of the effects you're after.

You're welcome, and please don't let my negative responses and/or explanation/excuses stop you from asking for changes. In many cases, after I've had a chance to cogitate on a suggestion, it'll find an easier solution.

And also please don't take it personally if I later implement something you've requested without crediting the idea to you. If I happen to be in a section of code making changes, previous suggestions will surface in my brain and get implemented and sometimes I don't recall who, or even if someone, suggested it in the past.

I meant thanks in a good way. Thanks for providing a great APRS software. I started out with ui-view, then xastir and back to ui-view again. I think I will be sticking with APRSISCE !

The "thanks" was taken as positive, not sarcastic, but thanks for the confirmation. I hope to keep APRSISCE/32 as the client you'll want to stick with unless there's just one special thing that you can't live without that I still haven't gotten implemented!
