Hi There,

Just loaded APRSIS on my laptop but the map is almost greyed out also I keep getting the laptop chiming every 10 seconds, the only way I can stop the sounds is to disable sound. Apart from that all seems to be working as it should.
Neither problem occurs with the program loaded on my desktop.

1) Map opacity is controlled by left/right arrows. Hit the right arrow at least 20 times to get to 100% opacity (and hopefully darker maps). Each arrow press changes it by 5%.

2) Does your laptop have unrestricted Internet access? The chiming sounds like it is attempting, and failing, to open a connection, likely to the APRS-IS server?

If you can e-mail a copy of your APRSIS32*.LOG files to KJ4ERJ at arrl.net, I can maybe learn more.

Hi Lynn,

1) Map opacity; Yes all ok, doh!!

2) Chiming; Having looked at the logfile and taking on board the essence of your comment re. connecting I noticed lots of Com10 messages. I had set up a TT4 port which requires a USB/RS232 adapter which was not plugged in at the time. Obviously it was looking for COM10 which does not exist without the adapter in place.

So I think I'm ok………for now?

Sounds like you've got it all going. Congrats!

APRSISCE/32 considers it an issue if it cannot open a port which is configured and enabled, so it generates noise. Some folks would like to just leave a port (like APRS-IS or BlueTooth connected) enabled at all times and expect APRSISCE/32 to establish the connection when it is able, but without the sound, you'd never know if it was having trouble when it SHOULD have been connected. So it makes noise.
